This massive, but slow growing palm, is thought to be a rare hybrid between two North American natives, Sabal minor x Sabal palmetto. At fifteen years, it finally starts to develop a short trunk. Our 20 year old specimen has reached 9' tall x 15' wide, while the 40 year old specimen in Raleigh's Jaycee Park sports a 10' tall
