Early 20th Century "J-E" Storage Battery Flange Sign notary Antique tin litho advertising signc. 1910s 1920s; Jelly Electrolyte Battery Co., Inc. New York Antique flanged service station sign. This piece advertises Jelly Electrolyte, or "J E" storage batteries. The "jelly" eliminated the need for refilling water (a task required with early batteries) and was more dependable in cold weather months as the material didn't freeze. The "jelly" also prevented sulfation, which is a condition that occurs when lead sulfate crystals build up on battery
