It is known primarily from fossil remains recovered in Shandong Province, particularly from the Zhucheng area, one of the most important fossil regions in East Asia for dinosaurs from the end of the Mesozoic. Originally described by Hu in 1973, this taxon represents one of the largest hadrosaurids known and probably one of the largest
